The Vertical Rescue Course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to undertake Vertical Rescue in a range of emergency situations in natural and manmade environments.

  • Anchoring and Deploying Rope
  • Belays
  • Ascending, Changeovers, Overhangs and Completing Self-rescue
  • Managing Edges
  • One-on-one Rescue
  • Hauling and Lowering Systems
  • Managing Casualties
  • Span line – Cableway
  • Terminating VR Operations

Learning Methods and Duration:

This course is conducted over a series of training days and/or evenings, including formative assessment evidence, gathered in this time.  The course is structured as a mix of information giving and practical activities.  
Course Duration: approximately 26 hours
Assessment time: approximately 4 hours

Course Entry Requirements:

  • Field Operator Foundation level courses
  • PUASAR022 Participate in a rescue operation (Participate in a Rescue Operation Course)
