The USAR CAT 1 Course provides participants with the skills and knowledge to provide safe and effective rescue support to an urban search and rescue (USAR) incident as a member of a first responder rescue team.

Target Audience:

Members training to be an Urban Serach and Rescue Operator or a General Land Rescue Operator

Learning Outcomes:

  • PUASAR023 Participate in an urban search and rescue Category 1

Content:

  • Urban Search and Rescue Overview
  • Preparing for a USAR Operation
  • Establishing the Rescue Scene
  • Search and Rescue
  • Completing an Operation

Learning Methods and Duration:

This course is conducted over a series of training days and/or evenings.  The course is structured as a mix of information giving and practical activities. 
Course Duration: Approx. 6.5 hours
Assessment time: 
– Summative scenario: approximately 80 minutes
– Theory assessment: approximately 30 minutes

Course Entry Requirements:

  • Field Operator Foundation level courses
  • PUASAR022 Participate in a rescue operation (Participate in a Rescue Operation Course)
