Foundations in Emergency Management (previously known as the NSW Emergency Management Program) aims to build knowledge and awareness of emergency management practices and principles, enabling learners to operate effectively in and contribute to the emergency management environment in NSW.

Introduction:

Target Audience:

Members who will be undertaking functional roles in an Incident Management Team.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand key principles, legal frameworks and planning processes that guide emergency management in NSW
  • Identify roles and responsibilities of agencies and communities involved in planning and response
  • Explain coordination models used during emergencies
  • Describe the recovery process, including the NSW Recovery Plan

Content:

  • Emergency Management Planning: Learners explore the legal foundations, planning documents (EMPLANs), and the roles of Emergency Management Committees
  • Emergency Response Coordination: The course explains the roles of Combat Agencies, Functional Areas, and Emergency Operations Centres (EOCs), including how coordination occurs during an emergency
  • Disaster Recovery: Learners gain insight into recovery principles, responsibilities, and the NSW Recovery Plan

Learning Methods and Duration:

This course is conducted via self-paced online learning, and it is estimated to take learners 3–4 hours to complete.

Please note: Since this is an external e-learning, please submit a Service Desk ticket along with your completion certificate once you've successfully finished your training. Your qualification will then be added to your aXcelerate profile.
